Unveiled back in 2020, Unreal Engine 5 first launched in Early Access and began slowly taking steps towards establishing itself as one of the go-to game engines out there. Building on a legacy that spans more than two decades, Epic Games’ engine has played a monumental role in defining the look of video games across several generations and will continue to do so, given the list of games confirmed to be using UE5.

Most of the games confirmed as using Unreal Engine 5 are still in development and will take a while before they’re out. A handful of others have yet to reveal the version of the engine which they’re using, maintaining an aura of mystery in the lead-up to their distant release. Nevertheless, we’ve gathered them all in the list below, so you can more easily keep track of them.

As time passes, more titles will likely make use of its capabilities, which include its impressive Nanite geometry system that massively improves the amount of geometric detail on show and Lumen, a fully dynamic global illumination solution that could prove game-changing for in-game lighting.

Unreal Engine 5 launched on April 5, 2022, when Epic Games also shared an image of all the developers currently working with its newest engine. You’ll find it below, followed by a list of Unreal Engine 5 games that were announced prior to its reveal.

Unannounced Halloween Game

Boss Team Games are working on an unannounced Halloween Game, which will make sure of Unreal Engine 5. John Carpenter, who directed the 1978 original horror movie, is involved in the project.

“As a huge gamer myself, I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly.” said Carpenter.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

The sequel to Ninja Theory’s dark fantasy action-adventure game is set in Iceland and sees the heroine make a return, after succeeding in her battle against her inner demons.

Fortnite

Unreal Engine 4 turned Fortnite into the battle royale phenomenon that it is today and, while Epic Games’ flagship title is doing quite fine for itself, it will made the move to Unreal Engine 5 in mid-2022, taking advantage of its new suite of features.

ArcheAge II

The sequel to XLGAMES’ popular MMORPG, ArcheAge II is currently in the early stages of development and will continue to treat freedom as one of its core design principles.

Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate

Revealed at the end of May, Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate is the next mainline entry in the series, uses Unreal Engine 5, and has a cool new logo. That’s all we know at the moment but, with a bit of luck, we’ll hear more publisher Square Enix may share more over the coming months.

Dreamhouse: The Game

Dreamhouse: The Game takes you through the entire process of building a house, from setting its foundation, to adding the final decorative touches at the end. If you don’t get things quite right, you can always destroy what you’ve built and start over, ask some friends for help in multiplayer, or challenge yourself even more in its VR mode.

eFootball PES 2022

Pro Evolution Soccer, now rebranded to eFootball PES, only received a seasonal update last year, breaking the cycle of yearly releases. This gave Konami more time on the game’s next-gen 2022 version, which will use Unreal Engine 5.

Gears of War

The original Gears of War had what was arguably the quintessential Unreal Engine 3 look and the series has continued to be developed on Epic Games’ popular engine. Developer The Coalition has confirmed that “multiple new projects in the coming years” will be developed using Unreal Engine 5.

Echoes of the End

Narrative-driven third-person action-adventure title Echoes of the End is the first upcoming Unreal Engine 5 game in publisher Prime Matter’s portfolio. Developed by Icelandic studio Myrkur Games, it follows Ryn, an experienced fighter capable of manipulating and destroying matter, as she search to uncover her true purpose.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl

Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl sees players returning to the anomaly-ridden, mutant-filled Chornobyl Exclusion Zone and promises a non-linear story that sends you all across the whole 64 km² of its open world. Factions make a return and developer GSC Game World says its A-life 2.0 system “makes the game world feel alive as never before.”

Black Myth: Wukong

Black Myth: Wukong already boasted impressive visuals while it was being developed using UE4 but, in 2021, developer Game Science announced that it was shifting to Unreal Engine 5. The title is a third-person action RPG based on Chinese folklore that mixes exploration with combat sequences against regular foes and impressive bosses.

Quantum Error

Quantum Error is an upcoming horror game with first-person shooter elements whose development has now shifted to Unreal Engine 5. In it, players take on the role of one Captain Jacob Thomas, who’s sent on a rescue mission after the Monad Quantum Research Facility is attacked by an unknown entity.

New Bioshock Game

The upcoming Bioshock game remains a mystery, as no official details about it have been shared until this point. That being said, a series of job listings from developer Cloud Chamber have referenced both it and the Unreal Engine 5, making it very likely that it is being developed using the latest version of Epic Games’ engine.

Unannounced Midnight Society Game

Midnight Society is an AAA studio co-founded by Robert Bowling, Herschel ‘Guy’ Beahm (a.k.a Dr. Disrespect), and Quinn DelHoyo that is currently working on an unannounced PVP multiplayer game using Unreal Engine 5.

Ashes of Creation

Ashes of Creation is one of the most ambitious upcoming MMORPGs and yet another game whose development will transition to Unreal Engine 5. Developer Intrepid Studios has already showcased a handful of locations across the game’s world, giving players better sense of how the engine’s technological improvements will help bring Verra to life.

Mortal Online 2

Mortal Online 2 is a first-person MMORPG that caters to a more hardcore audience, its open world being subjected to full PvP rules that see those who fail to come out on top losing all their hard-earned equipment. With more than 600 skills to master and a player-driven economy, the title will make the jump to Unreal Engine 5 when a stable-enough build becomes available.

ILL

Ill is a first-person horror game from developer Team Clout that channels quite a bit of Resident Evil and is now developed using UE5. Although you can’t tell from its 45-second teaser, the concept art shared by the developer so far feature promisingly gory monster designs.

Layers of Fears

Bloober Team is working on an upcoming Layers of Fear game developed using UE5. The studio initially shared a teaser video before revealing during 2022’s Summer Game Fest that the title is a “psychedelic horror chronicle”.

Grasshopper Manufacture Games

After being acquired by NetEase Games, developer Grasshopper Manufacture currently has plans to release three games over the coming decade. In an interview with Automaton Media, via ResetEra, it has confirmed that it is currently in the pre-production stage, working in UE5.

New The Witcher Game

CD Projekt Red confirmed that the next entry in its The Witcher series will use Unreal Engine 5 when it announced it in March 2022. This was a bit of a surprising move, considering the studio developed its previous games using the proprietary REDEngine technology, but it’s ultimately fitting for a game described as “a new saga.”

New Firesprite Game

Firesprite is working on at least two new Unreal Engine 5 games. Job listings point at both a narrative-driven horror adventure title and a multiplayer action game as being in development.

New Tomb Raider Game

Developer Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that its next Tomb Raider game is in development and will use Unreal Engine 5 to “deliver the high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience that fans deserve.”

Kingdom Hearts 4

Kingdom Hearts 4’s debut trailer was made using UE 4 but a report from Famitsu (via VGC) suggests that the game’s final version will run on Unreal Engine 5, benefitting from improved lighting and detail quality.

Hell Is Us

A third-person action-adventure from developer Rogue Factor, Hell Is Us blends exploration with combat against mysterious supernatural foes. Players must learn to defeat these enemies using specialized weapons while exploring the semi-open world that stretches across a country ravaged by civil war all by themselves.

Off The Grid

Off The Grid is a third-person shooter from developer Gunzilla Games that aims to infuse the battle royale formula with a hefty dose of narrative progression. Set in a dystopian future, its battles see 150 players facing each other in PvP while also being able to take on storyline-focused PvE missions as the match goes on, controlling how the game’s story unfolds.

The Day Before

The Day Before is an open-world third-person shooter that caught the eye of many a gamer when it was initially revealed. Blending zombie-fueled PvE and PvP, the title’s devleopment shifted to Unreal Engine 5 in 2022, although it did come at a cost of its release date being delayed until the following year.

Stormgate

Stormgate is developer Frost Giant Studios’ debut title and a free-to-play real-time strategy game that aims to stay true to the core principles of the genre while making it more approachable and social. The title will feature a campaign that’s playable alone or in co-op as well as multiplayer modes in which you can compete against other players. The developer aims to target both a more casual audience as well as esports enthusiasts, and has also confirmed that an editor will also be made available, letting players put together their own missions and minigames.

Fort Solis

Fort Solis is an upcoming single-player third-person thriller that unfolds over the length of a single night on Mars. The game follows an engineer named Jack Leary who responds to what seems to be a routine alarm. The lack of staff on the base he discovers is, however, only the first sign that things are about to spiral out of control.

Ark 2

The sequel to Studio Wildcard’s popular dinosaur-centric survival game, Ark 2 stars Vin Diesel as Santiago, a capable leader and warrior tasked with defending his tribe. Playable from a third-person perspective, the title will feature soulslike-inspired combat as well as traversal mechanics such as, mantling, free-climbing, parkour, sliding, and swinging, which come in handy when exploring its alien environment.

Instinction

Prehistoric action-adventure game Instinction follows protagonist April Summers as she searches for valuable artifacts while battling her personal demons. On the way, she’ll also go toe to toe with a multitude of creatures, while traversing a variety of terrain types and completing puzzles. The title also allows players to switch between a first and third-person perspective on the fly.

Into the Echo

Into the Echo describes itself as a “unique time-travel MMORPG.” Set on the planet of Raava, players delve into its past to uncover its mysteries, according to the game’s official website. Details are scarce at the moment, but the same website also suggests that there might be different viable avenues of progression, whether you “choose to master a craft, become a legendary code-breaker or actually fight.”

Legend of Ymir

Legend of Ymir is an MMORPG from developer WeMade that adapts the setting from its series The Legend of Mir, infusing it with lots of Nordic flavor. The title is confirmed to support NFTs.

Mictlan: An Ancient Mythical Tale

Mictlan is an open-world action-adventure game set during the Spanish conquest of Mexico. Based on Mesoamerican history and culture, its world blends history and fantasy, allowing players to dispatch foes using swords, spears, and magic. The developer also plans to fully dub the game in Nahuatl, the language spoken by the indigenous inhabitants of the Valley of Mexico, alongside Yucatec Mayan, the language spoken in the Yucatán Peninsula and northern Belize.

Project Ryu

Project Ryu is an upcoming single-player game set in Korea, developed by six-person indie outfit Ryu Production. So far, only a handful of environments were showcased, but the developer plans on sharing more in the future.

Rooted

Rooted is a post-apocalyptic multiplayer survival game which puts you in the shoes of one of the few people to survive a bacteriological war. As you explore its ravaged world, you obtain resources with which you build and expand your camp, craft items, and set off on new expeditions.

Shadow of Conspiracy: Section 2

Confirmed for the PS5, Shadow of Conspiracy: Section 2 is a narrative-driven cyberpunk game that’s set in a dark, future version of Berlin in the year 2087. The first gameplay showcased emphasizes stealth, giving players both a silenced gun and knife which they can use to take down opponents while freely switching between first and third-person cameras. Other weapons, like assault rifles, are also there when you don’t quite pull off being sneaky.

Vigilancer 2099

In Vigilancer 2099, you’re a bounty hunter lurking through a packed cyberpunk city. You move around using both futuristic vehicles and on foot. You can scan your surroundings and interrogate others to gain information about your targets. Once you track them down, you get to decide whether you see the job through using hand to hand combat, ranged weapons, or by taking control of security drones. The money you earn helps you purchase better gear, making you an even better bounty hunter.

Unannounced Creative Assembly Sofia Game

Creative Assembly Sofia is working on an unannounced Unreal Engine 5 project, according to a 2022 job listing. This could be a multiplatform release with live service elements since both are mentioned as “nice to have.”

Code: To Jin Yong

Code: To Jin Yong is an upcoming open-world game from Tencent Games and Lightspeed Games. Based on the world created by writer Jin Yong in his wuxia novel series, the title’s first trailer showcases an intense clash between two swordsmen who also use magical abilities.

Aliens

Creed: Rise to Glory developer Survios has confirmed that it is working on a single-player, action horror game set between the Alien and Aliens films. The title follows “a battle hardened veteran [who] has a vendetta against the Xenomorphs” and is slated to launch on PC, consoles, and VR platforms.

Unannounced ArenaNet Project

Guild Wars 2 developer ArenaNet is working on a new, unannounced project which does feature a multiplayer component and is built in Unreal Engine. Whether it’s entry number 3 in its storied MMORPG series, a new MMO for the Korean market, or something entirely different remains to be seen.

Nightingale

In Nightingale, you are a Realmwalker journeying across and attempting to survive the challenges of the Fae Realms by crafting, building, and fighting. The survival title from the team of Bioware veterans at Inflexion Games started development in UE4 but ended up delayed in order to give the team needed time to upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.

The First Descendant

The First Descendant is an upcoming co-op third-person shooter from developer Nexon Games. Supporting up to 4 players, the title tasks players with fighting against invaders set on ravaging the Ingris continent. In battle, you can control characters with different skill sets but also weave “free movement” mechanics, including a grappling hook into intense gunplay. There’s also no shortage of shiny armor, as per its teaser trailer.

Unawake

Publisher Toplitz Productions and developer RealityArts promise “brute action in a dystopian apocalypse” in Awake, their upcoming project. As wars rage between the creatures of heaven and hell, players step in to determine the fate of humanity by engaging in visceral first-person melee combat using an array of different weapons. The title’s story includes science fiction, fantasy, and historical elements and you can check out its teaser trailer for an early look at what’s to come.

New Ballistic Moon Game

Independent studio Ballistic Moon has confirmed that it has a new UE5 game in the works. Details on it are scarce at the moment, but it’s yet another sign that developers of all sizes are considering Epic’s new engine for their upcoming games.

Everywhere

Announced during 2022’s Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase, Everything is developed by Build A Rocket Boy, studio helmed by Leslie Benzies, former Rockstar North president. Its trailer doesn’t paint that clear of a picture as to how it plays, but it includes two vastly different art styles and glimpses at what looks like sandbox-style gameplay. Its official website claims that the title “seamlessly blends gameplay, adventure, creativity and discovery in an all-new multi-world gaming experience that redefines how players connect with one another and with the digital world around them.”

I.G.I. Origins

I.G.I. Origins comes as a prequel to 2000’s Project IGI and developer AntiMatter Games has confirmed that it, too, is moving to Unreal Engine 5. Set during the Cold War, the game focuses on ex-SAS soldier Michael King, who now works for MI6. Players get to complete missions across the globe, choosing between a stealthier or a louder, more direct approach.

Tekken 8

Tekken 8 marks a jump in visual fidelity for the storied fighting game franchise, exploring what happened after Heihachi Mishima’s defeat. The title focuses on the rivalry between Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima who, alongside a cast of other characters, solve their issues through the tried-and-tested method of beating up each other while pulling off flashy moves.

Several Double Fine Productions Games

Double Fine Productions is working on several games using Unreal Engine 5. Aside from a few pieces of rather intriguing concept art, not much is known about these projects or when we can expect them. Nonetheless, it’ll be interesting to see what the studio behind titles like Psychonauts and Broken Age comes up with next.

Immortals of Aveum

Immortals of Aveum is a first-person shooter that trades guns for magic, letting us wield and combo more than 25 spells when it launches. A beefy talent system, upgradeable gear, and a story that focuses on a world-spanning conflict promise to support the game’s different flavor of explosive action.

Infinitesimals

Third-person action-adventure game Infinitesimals tells the story of Captain Awkney Relinrak, who must use high-tech weapons, vehicles, and high mobility to survive a world in which most things are gargantuan compared to them.

Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks

Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks mixes racing and shooter elements, putting players behind the wheel of different ramshackle vehicles equipped with more or less explosive weaponry while tasking them with proving that they’re the Orkiest Ork around. Most of your time is split between racing to capture points and blowing up enemies.

Lords of the Fallen

Lords of the Fallen is the spiritual successor to 2014’s action-RPG with the same name. Rebooting the series, it puts us in the role of Dark Crusaders journeying through the realms of the living and the dead in an attempt to stop the resurrection of the demon god Adyr. Still a soulslike at heart, it pits us against a variety of tough foes, including deadly, monstrous bosses, one of which has too many mouths and also too many teeth.

Miasma Chronicles

Miasma Chronicles blends real-time exploration with stealth and turn-based tactical combat. Set in a version of America that has been ravaged by a force known as the Miasma, it follows Elvis, a young man given a glove that can control the terrifying force, and his robotic brother in their search for answers.

Sand Land

Based on Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama’s manga with the same name, Sand Land throws us into a cel-shaded desert world in which humans and demons live together. They also engage in plenty of explosive vehicular combat and rope walking.

Satisfactory

Satisfactory is a first-person open-world factory building game that blends in exploration and combat for a well-rounded experience. In between bouts of constructing buildings and planning out the best ways to automate your factory, you set out in search of new materials that help it reach peak efficiency. Whether you do so on foot, in your trusty truck, or using jetpacks, you’ll want to watch out for the local wildlife.

Remnant 2

Remnant 2 is a third-person action game with soulslike elements set in a post-apocalyptic world where a destructive force known as the Root runs rampant. Traveling to different worlds, you shoot your way through procedurally generated levels while unlocking and upgrading new weapons. In an interview with Wccftech, Design Director John Pearl confirmed that the sequel is running on Unreal Engine 5, making use of its Nanite technology but not Lumen.
